VMAQ-3 Sergeant Major

Sergeant Major Anderson was born in Sherman, Texas on 12 June 1975.   He attended Recruit Training at Marine Corps Recruit Depot San Diego (MCRD) in June 1993.  Upon graduation from Recruit Training he reported to the School of Infantry (West) to attend Marine Combat Training and the Infantry Training Battalion at Camp Pendleton, California.  

Upon completion of his initial training Sergeant Major Anderson served with Marine Corps Security Force Regiment assigned to Marine Barracks, Sasebo, Japan, and then transferred to 1st Battalion, 4th Marines where he was assigned to Alpha Company “Raiders”.  While at 1st Battalion, 4th Marines Sergeant Major Anderson and served in billets ranging from Automatic Rifleman to Platoon Commander.  Sergeant Major Anderson participated in two Western Pacific Deployments in 1995 and 1997/98. 

He was assigned to Alpha Company, Infantry Training Battalion, School of Infantry in February of 1999 where he served as a Squad Instructor, Platoon Sergeant, and Platoon Commander. 

Sergeant Major Anderson reported to Recruiting School at MCRD San Diego in February of 2001.  Upon graduation in April of 2001 he was assigned to Recruiting Station Dallas.  He served as a Canvassing Recruiter for RSS Plano, PCS Sherman, Texas.

He was then transferred to 3rd Battalion, 5th Marines in May of 2004 and served as a Platoon Sergeant and the Battalion Detention Center SNCOIC during Operation Phantom Fury.  Upon return from deployment in April 2005 Sergeant Major Anderson was assigned to the Military Transition Team (MTT) and served as a Company Advisor and Senior Enlisted Advisor for 1st Battalion, 3rd Brigade, 1st Iraqi Army Division.  He deployed with the MTT in January of 2006 until August of 2006 in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom V.

Sergeant Major Anderson was transferred to the Staff Noncommissioned Officer Academy, Camp Pendleton, California in March of 2007 and was assigned to the Career Course as a Faculty Advisor/ Instructor and as the SNCOIC of the Career Course.  

He was selected to the rank of First Sergeant in December of 2009 and received orders to Marine Corps Security Force Regiment, Marine Corps Security Force Company, Guantanamo Bay, Cuba where and served as the Company First Sergeant until February 2012.  Sergeant Major Anderson transferred to 2nd Intelligence Battalion serving as Company First Sergeant and conducted a 10 month deployment in 2013 in support of II Marine Expeditionary Force Headquarters Group Forward, Operation Enduring Freedom 13.

Sergeant Major Anderson’s personal decorations include the Bronze Star Medal with Combat “V”, the Purple Heart Medal, the Navy Commendation Medal, the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal in lieu of 4th award, and the Combat Action Ribbon.
