Sergeant Major Jordan L. Freeland VMAT-203 Sergeant Major

Sergeant Major Freeland graduated from Chico high school in 1996 and attended college to play baseball. In February 1998, he enlisted in the Marine Corps where he attended MCRD San Diego.  Upon graduation, Private First Class Freeland attended the School of Infantry in Camp Pendleton, California where he was meritoriously promoted to the rank of Lance Corporal.  

Upon completion of School of Infantry, Lance Corporal Freeland reported to 2d Battalion, 5th Marines, Camp Pendleton, California; where he served as chief scout swimmer for Company F “Blackhearts” and scout sniper section leader from August 1998 to December 2002.  During his time with 2d Battalion, 5th Marines; he participated in two unit deployments with the 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit; and participated in a humanitarian assistance operation in support of OPERATION STABALIZE to the country of East Timor.
 
 In December 2002, Sergeant Freeland reported to received orders to 1st Fleet Antiterrorism Security Team (FAST), Norfolk, Virginia; where he was meritoriously promoted to the rank of Staff Sergeant; served as squad leader, platoon sergeant, operations chief; and conducted three deployments as part of FAST Deployment Programs (FDP) in support of NATO’s OPERATION ACTIVE ENDEAVOR, OPERATION IRAQI FREEDOM (OIF), and numerous Maritime Interdiction Operations (MIO).
 
In July 2006, Staff Sergeant Freeland reported to 1st Battalion, 4th Marines, Camp Pendleton, California; where he served as the scout sniper platoon commander and rifle platoon commander for Company B in support of two OIF deployments.
     
In July 2009, Gunnery Sergeant Freeland executed orders to Survive, Evade, Resist, Escape (SERE) School in San Diego, California where he served as the chief instructor and Marine Detachment SNCOIC. In January 2012, Gunnery Sergeant Freeland volunteered for an individual augment billet where served as a team leader for an embedded training team to advise, assist, and accompany the 3rd Kandak, 215th Brigade, Afghanistan Army in Musa Qala, Afghanistan.  Upon his return to CONUS, he reported back to SERE school where he was subsequently selected to the rank of First Sergeant. 

In March 2013, First Sergeant Freeland executed orders to 1st Battalion, 7th Marines, Twentynine Palms, California; where he served as Company First Sergeant for Company C “Suicide Charley”; participated Unit Enhancement Training that provided infantry skills training to the United Arab Emirate soldiers; Weapons and Tactics Instructor (WTI) exercise; and deployed to Sangin, Afghanistan.  

In May 2015, First Sergeant Freeland executed orders to 2d Marine Raider Battalion, Camp Lejeune, North Carolina; where he deployed to Erbil, Iraq in support of OPERATION INHERENT RESOLVE (OIR) with Marine Special Operations Company Hotel.  Upon his return he served as Headquarters and Service Company First Sergeant and served as the Acting Sergeant Major since June of 2017.

In January 2018, Sergeant Major Freeland reported to and currently serves as the Sergeant Major for Marine Attack Training Squadron 203, Marine Aircraft Group-14, 2D Marine Aircraft Wing, Cherry Point, North Carolina.
