Lieutenant Colonel Davis graduated in May 2000 from the United States Naval Academy with a Bachelor’s Degree in Economics. He completed The Basic School in January 2001 and then reported to NAS Pensacola, FL for flight training. He was designated a Naval Aviator in October 2003 after completion of advanced training at NAS Meridian, MS and subsequently reported to VMAT-203 for AV-8B training.
After completing the AV-8B training syllabus, Lieutenant Colonel Davis was assigned to VMA-223 in January 2005 where he was designated as the Squadron Logistics and Communication Officer. Shortly thereafter, he was responsible for embarking the squadron to Al Asad, Iraq in support of OPERATION IRAQI FREEDOM from August 2005 to March 2006. He was later reassigned as the Squadron Airframes and Corrosion Control Officer from June 2006 to April 2007. Lieutenant Colonel Davis was transferred to the 22nd MEU in April of 2007 and deployed with HMM-261 aboard the USS Kearsarge from August 2007 until December 2007 as the Quality Assurance Officer. While deployed, Lieutenant Colonel Davis temporarily returned to Iraq in support of OPERATION IRAQI FREEDOM. On the same deployment, he also flew Close Air Support missions in support of OPERATION ENDURING FREEDOM and conducted counter-piracy operations off the coast of Africa as well.
Following the 22nd MEU deployment, Lieutenant Colonel Davis reported to the Expeditionary Warfare School in Quantico, VA where he graduated with distinction in May of 2009. After graduation he served as an Academics Instructor at Officer Candidate School (OCS) during the summer of 2009. Following OCS, he reported once again to the Bulldogs of VMA-223 and was assigned as the Quality Assurance Officer before eventually assuming the responsibilities of the Maintenance Officer. Lieutenant Colonel Davis deployed to Kandahar, Afghanistan in October 2011 as the Maintenance Officer in support of OPERATION ENDURING FREEDOM.
On returning home from deployment in May 2012, Lieutenant Colonel Davis reported to Maxwell AFB in Montgomery, AL to attend Air Command and Staff College. He graduated with distinction, earning a Master’s Degree in Military Operational Art and Science. Lieutenant Colonel Davis remained in Maxwell another year to attend the School of Advanced Air and Space Studies where he earned a Master of Philosophy Degree in Military Strategy and a secondary Military Occupational Specialty as a MAGTF Planner.
After graduation Lieutenant Colonel Davis was assigned to the Marine Corps Combat Development Command, where he served as the Aviation Planner within the Ellis Group. While in the Ellis Group, Lieutenant Colonel Davis helped author the Marine Corps’ strategic vision of the future, including the Marine Corps Operating Concept and Expeditionary Force 21, future operational concepts including Distributed STOVL Operations and Expeditionary Advanced Base Operations. He also served as one of the lead aviation planners for Marine Corps Force 2025. After completing his Quantico tour, Lieutenant Colonel Davis reported to Marine Attack Squadron 542 and once again served as the Maintenance Officer from July 2017 to June 2018.
Lieutenant Colonel Davis’ personal decorations include the Bronze Star, the Meritorious Service Medal, Strike Flight Air Medal with numeral (9), and the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal.
