Major Holland graduated from Fort Hays State University in 2001 with Bachelor of Business Administration degree in Accounting. He attended Officer Candidate Class 177 and was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant on 10 Aug 2001. Upon completion of The Basic School in April 2002, he reported to Marine Corps Combat Service Support School for training as a logistics officer. In July 2002, Second Lieutenant Holland reported to 2d Light Armored Reconnaissance (LAR) Battalion aboard Camp Lejuene, NC. While with 2d LAR, he served as the Motor Transport Officer, Armory Officer, Assistant Logistics Officer, and Headquarters and Service Company Executive Officer. From Feb-Jun 2003 he deployed to Kuwait and Iraq in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom I. In January 2005, First Lieutenant Holland was selected by the Field Accession Board to attend flight training as a Student Naval Aviator. He reported to Naval Air Station Pensacola, FL to complete Aviation Pre-Flight Indoctrination training followed by primary flight training in the T-34C Turbo Mentor at NAS Milton, FL. In June 2006, Captain Holland reported to Training Squadron 31 (VT-31) at NAS Corpus Christi, TX to fly the T-44B Pegasus. He received his wings of gold in December 2006.
In February 2007, Captain Holland reported to the KC-130J Aviation Training Unit (ATU) at Marine Corps Air Station (MCAS) Cherry Point, NC to begin training in the KC-130J. He completed his training in July 2007 and reported to his first fleet squadron, Marine Aerial Refueler Transport Squadron 252 (VMGR-252), “Otis”. While with “Otis”, he served as Logistics Officer, Flight Duty Officer, Aircrew Training Officer and deployed to Kandahar, Afghanistan from Feb-Oct 2008 as part of the KC-130J detachment supporting the 24th Marine Expeditionary Unit (MEU) and Al Asad, Iraq from Jul-Dec 2009 as part of the last Marine Corps KC-130J detachment in Iraq.
In January 2010, Captain Holland was selected to serve as the first Marine Corps J-model exchange pilot with the Royal Canadian Air Force. He checked into 436 Transport Squadron, the “Canucks”, aboard Canadian Forces Base Trenton, Ontario in July 2010. During his tenure with the “Canucks”, Captain Holland served as the chief J-model Training Officer, Check Pilot, and Pilot Leader.
Upon returning to the United States in August 2013, Major Holland reported to the 24th Marine Expeditionary Unit aboard Camp Lejeune, NC. He served as the Air Officer and Assistant Operations Officer and deployed in support of Special Purpose Marine Air Ground Task Force – Crisis Response – Africa (SPMAGTF-CR-AF) from Nov 2013 – Jan 2014 and with the 24th MEU aboard the USS Iwo Jima and USS New York from Dec 2014 – Jul 2015. During his time with the 24th MEU, Major Holland graduated from the Air Officer Division of MAWTS-1 Weapons and Tactics Instructor course 1-14.
In August 2015, Major Holland returned to MCAS Cherry Point, NC and at the completion of refresher training at the KC-130J Fleet Replacement Detachment (FRD) reported to VMGR-252. He served as the Director of Safety and Standardization and deployed as the Detachment Officer in Charge for SPMAGTF-CR-AF 16.2 from Jul 2016 – Jan 2017. He attended the MAWTS-1 Weapons and Tactics Instructor course 2-16 and is currently serving as the Executive Officer with “Otis”.
His personal decorations include the Meritorious Service Medal, the Air Medal (Strike/Flight numeral 6), the Navy/Marine Corps Achievement Medal with one gold star, and the Combat Action Ribbon.
