VMGR-252 Command Senior Enlisted Leader
Sergeant Major Ryan M. Sweet

Sergeant Major Sweet currently serves as the Squadron Sergeant Major for Marine Aerial Refueler Transport Squadron 252, Marine Aircraft Group 14, 2d Marine Aircraft Wing.

Sergeant Major Sweet enlisted in the United States Marine Corps in June 2003, from Port Orchard, Washington and completed recruit training at MCRD San Diego. He subsequently attended Marine Combat Training and Bulk Fuel Specialists Course to obtain the MOS of 1391 and was meritoriously promoted to the rank of Lance Corporal.

In December of 2003, Lance Corporal Sweet reported for duty to Company A, 6th Engineer Support Battalion (ESB) for duty in the Select Marine Corps Reserves (SMCR). In 2004, Lance Corporal Sweet was activated in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom and received orders to Command Element, I Marine Expeditionary Force (MEF) for duty as the casualty section NCOIC. In October 2005, Lance Corporal Sweet received follow on orders to 3rd Civil Affairs Group (CAG), I MEF for assignment as a Civil Affairs NCO and was promoted to the rank of Corporal.

In October 2006, Corporal Sweet received orders to conduct on the job training with EOD Section, Headquarters Battalion, Marine Corps Air Ground Combat Center and was promoted to the rank of Sergeant. In March of 2007, Sergeant Sweet reported for duty to Marine Detachment, Naval School of Explosive Ordnance Disposal, for assignment as a student at Eglin Air Force Base. Upon graduation in December, Sergeant Sweet received orders to report for duty to 2nd EOD Co, 8th ESB where he served from December 2007 to August 2012. In June 2012, Staff Sergeant Sweet reported for duty to Combat Logistics Battalion 31, 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit (MEU) as an EOD technician within the Indo-Pacific Command's area of responsibility. In June 2013, Staff Sergeant Sweet executed orders back to 2nd EOD Co, 8th ESB for duty. He assumed the billets of Company Admin Chief and Company First Sergeant.

In January 2017, First Sergeant Sweet executed orders to 3d Marine Raider Support Battalion, Marine Forces, Special Operations Command as Intelligence Company first Sergeant. In February 2019, First Sergeant Sweet reported for duty to 3d Battalion, 4th Marines, 1st Marine Division for duty as India Company First Sergeant. 

In May 2021, First Sergeant Sweet transferred to Infantry Training Battalion, School of Infantry-East for his current duties as Company B First Sergeant. He was selected to Sergeant Major in November 2021, and was promoted to his current rank in January 2022 at which time he transfered to his current unit.

Sergeant Major Sweet has deployed five times in support of combat operations including both Operation Iraqi Freedom and Operation Enduring Freedom, and has conducted four deployments with the 31st MEU.

Sergeant Major Sweet's personal decorations include: Purple Heart Medal, Meritorious Service Medal with 1 gold star, Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal with V and 1 gold star, Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal with 2 gold stars, Combat Action Ribbon, the Master Explosive Ordnance Disposal Insignia, and is a graduate from Purdue University Global with a Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice (Magna Cum Laude).
