Lieutenant Colonel Green graduated from San Diego State University in 1997 with a Bachelors of Liberal Arts in Sociology, Geography, and Naval Science.  He was commissioned in 1998 via the Platoon Leader’s Course and completed The Basic School (TBS) the following year.  After TBS, he attended Air Support Control Officers Course and Low Altitude Air Defense (LAAD) Officers Course in 1999.

In September 1999 he reported to Marine Air Support Squadron 1 (MASS-1) and served as a Tactical Air Director (TAD), Helicopter Director (HD), and Senior Air Director (SAD) in the Direct Air Support Center (DASC).  In 2000 he was promoted to First Lieutenant.  He served as a Platoon Commander, Air Support Liaison Team Officer in Charge (OIC), LNO, Air Contingency Marine Air Ground Task Force (MAGTF) (ACM) Team OIC, Detachment OIC for multiple exercises both stateside and abroad, and as Weapons and Tactics Training Program (WTTP) OIC.  In 2001, he attended Winter Mountain Warfare Course at the Mountain Warfare Training Center in Bridgeport, California.

In 2002 he was promoted to Captain and later that year reported to the Command Element of 26 MEU (SOC) as  Marine Air Control Group Detachment OIC. During the deployment he participated in Operation IRAQI FREEDOM (OIF) with Joint Special Operations Task Force-North (JSOTF-N) in Mosul and then as part of Joint Task Force Liberia.  Upon returning from 26 MEU(SOC) in 2003 he returned to MASS-1, serving as the DASC Commander until June 2004.

From 2004 to 2007 he served at Air Schools (C Co.), Marine Corps Communications and Electronics School (MCCES) in Twenty-nine Palms, California where he was assigned to the Air Support Training Section as the Training Officer and instructor and later as the C Co. Deputy Director, Operations Officer, and Executive Officer.  From 2005 to 2007 he was both the MCCES Battalion and Marine Corps Air Ground Combat Center (MCAGCC) Base Shooting Teams OIC.  He competed in both military and regional civilian shooting matches, including the Western Division Matches.  During this time, Captain Green trained with 3d Battalion, 4th Marines Scout Snipers in long range marksmanship.  In 2006, he graduated from WTI at MAWTS-1.

In 2007 he attended the RQ-2B Pioneer Mission Commander (MC) Course and then was assigned to the VMU-2 “Nightowls.”  He deployed with VMU-2 to OIF 06-08 and 08.1 and served as the Assistant Operations Officer and Current Operations Officer.  He was MC for the last RQ-2B Pioneer combat mission in history.  In between deployments, VMU-2 transitioned to the RQ-7B Shadow Unmanned Aircraft System (UAS).  He also operated as an MC for the ScanEagle UAS in both combat and training.  In May of 2008 Captain Green was promoted to Major and served as the Operations Officer and Executive Officer.  During his tour at VMU-2, he served as the squadron’s WTI, MC Instructor (MCI), and was the fleet’s NATOPS Evaluator for the RQ-7B, accruing over 1300 hours of flight time.

In 2010 he was selected to serve at Marine Aviation Weapons & Tactics Squadron 1 (MAWTS-1) as the UAS Division Head as well as to stand up the UAS Specialist billet in the Aviation Development, Tactics & Evaluation (ADT&E) section. This marks the first time a UAS officer was assigned to MAWTS-1.  While at MAWTS-1, he transitioned to the 7315 Unmanned Aircraft Commander (UAC) MOS on the Marine Corps' first officer MOS transition board.  Major Green also led the transition of the UAS Division from the C3 Department to the TACAIR Department, due to the nature of the growing UAS capabilities, evolving tactics, and mission sets.  This change was the catalyst that prompted the VMU squadrons to shift from the Marine Air Control Groups into the Marine Aircraft Groups (MAG).

In 2013, Major Green attended the Marine Corps Command and Staff College (CSC).  While at CSC, he served as the Class President and earned his Master’s degree in Military Studies.  In 2014, he reported to the Pentagon to serve at Headquarters Marine Corps Aviation as a UAS Requirements officer.  He was promoted to his present rank in December of 2014.  In the fall of 2015, LtCol Green checked into MAG-14 and served as the OIC of the Department of Safety and Standardization and also became the first UAS officer qualified as a Joint Terminal Attack Controller.

In May 2016, LtCol Green reported to VMU-2, where he was assigned as the Commanding Officer.

Lieutenant Colonel Green has accumulated over 1900 flight hours as a UAC.  His personal awards include four Navy Commendation Medals, one with Combat “V,” a Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal, one Combat Action Ribbon, the Holcomb Trophy Medal and multiple military and civilian shooting match medals.
