Lieutenant Colonel James Vallario MAG-14 Executive Officer
LtCol Vallario enlisted in the Marine Corps Reserves in September 1995, and served initially as a Rifleman, and then as an M1A1 Abrams Tank Crewman, until April 1999.  He is a 1998 graduate of the Platoon Leaders Course, and a 1999 graduate of the University of San Diego.

Prior to commencing flight training, 1stLt Vallario completed Basic Officer Course 5-99, and Infantry Officer Course 3-00.  He then received his Naval Aviator wings on July 12th, 2002, having been a distinguished graduate of both the Primary and Advanced phases of flight training.  From August 2002 to June 2003, he completed basic AV-8B flight training with VMAT-203. 

Capt Vallario’s first fleet assignment was with VMA-311 – the “Tomcats”.  During this tour he held billets in safety, operations, logistics, and maintenance, and he completed one deployment with the 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit (MEU).  In March 2006, he completed the Tactical Air Control Party Course at Naval Base Coronado, CA, followed by the MAWTS-1 Air Officer Course at MCAS Yuma, AZ.  He then joined 3d Battalion, 4th Marines (3/4), and served as the Battalion Air Officer.  In September 2006, Capt Vallario deployed with 3/4 to Al Qa’im, Iraq, in support of Operation IRAQI FREEDOM. 

Maj Vallario rejoined VMA-311 in June 2007.  During this tour he attended the MAWTS-1 Weapons and Tactics Instructor Course (WTI).  Upon completion of MAWTS-1, he served as the squadron WTI, Assistant Operations Officer, and then Operations Officer.  Additionally, he completed deployments with the 15th and 31st MEUs. 

In July 2010, Maj Vallario moved to Luke AFB in Phoenix, AZ and completed the F-16 Transition Course, followed by the F-16 Block 50 Upgrade Course.  Relocating to Shaw AFB, SC, Maj Vallario joined the 55th Fighter Squadron.  During this tour Maj Vallario deployed to Aviano AB, Italy, and conducted combat sorties into Libya in support of Operation UNIFIED PROTECTOR.

Returning to Arizona in July 2012, Maj Vallario served as the Officer in Charge (OIC) of MATSS Yuma, with the ancillary billet as MAG-13 WTI.   He subsequently transitioned to VMA-211 in June 2013, and served as the squadron Executive Officer.  Maj Vallario deployed in July 2014 with the 11th MEU, serving in dual capacities as the AV-8B Detachment OIC and the Air Combat Element Executive Officer.  While deployed, the AV-8B detachment supported Operations INHERENT RESOLVE and ENDURING FREEDOM from the flight deck of the USS Makin Island (LHD-8).
In April 2015, Maj Vallario relocated to Northern Virginia to serve at The Pentagon as the AV-8B Requirements Officer (APW-22) for the Deputy Commandant of the Marine Corps for Aviation.  While on this tour, Maj Vallario advanced LINK-16 and APKWS integration on the AV-8B. 

Maj Vallario returned to Cherry Point in February 2016, promoted to the rank of LtCol in April of the same year, and assumed command of VMAT-203 on June 30th, 2016.  He relinquished command on January 19th, 2018, and assumed the billet of MAG-14 Executive Officer on the same day.
